Casablanca Blue

Rose petals abound in the luxurious seaside haven that is Casablanca, Morrocco. The souks are wonderful places to discover exotic wares and enjoy mesmerizing colors and scents.

I am truly in love with morrocan style and will be coming here over and over again to experience this alluring North African atmosphere.

Royal Air Maroc does its job well and I was quite impressed with the attention to detail and exquisite on board service. Other African airlines can certainly watch, learn and follow suit.

Juice, Fruit & Roots

My business partner and I have started a juice bar in the Ikoyi section of Lagos, Nigeria. We serve freshly squeezed mango, pineapple, watermelon, coconut and orange juice. Added to the mix, if you'd like a smoothie, are bananas, papaya, and moringa powder for an extra nutritional boost.

On some nights, we also have palm wine available and moringa leaf tea w/ local honey. If you want something truly potent and incredibly healing try our special raw quail egg, moringa oil, pineapple, mango cocktail. It sure beats alcoholic mixes for a drink to elevate you mind, body and soul.

The decor of our juice bar is designed in collaboration with local artists and craftspeople, with the traditional Nigerian architecture in mind. Our bar is open air where you can enjoy the musical sounds wafting out from the live shows inside. We also have grilled fish, okro soup and eba available on select evenings. Come and join us!

Hemp for Life

According to the Hemp Line Journal, hemp seeds are the most nutritionally complete food source in the world. "The seeds of the plant cannabis sativa contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs."

With more respect being given to the medical value of marijuana, hemp has exploded in popularity in recent years. Many companies are now making and selling high quality hemp seeds and it's easier than ever to enjoy the benefits of this infamous plant. I really love the Hemp Hearts by Manitoba Harvest, the seeds are very crunchy, nutty and delicious.

You can use them to top salads. The texture and flavor are reminiscent of parmesan cheese.

The seeds are packed with essential fatty acids, so make a great substitute for fish oils if you're vegan. EFA's are lubricating for your internal organs and can alleviate conditions like arthritis, eczema, hormonal imbalance, migraines & high blood pressure. These seeds,  rich in chlorophyll, fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and folic acid, can also be used to make these remarkably tasty and healthy, Hemp Balls!

Hemp Balls

1 cup raw almond butter
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 Tbls cacao powder
Pinch of sea salt
1/2 cup raw hemp seeds (for rolling)

Mix all first 5 ingredients until you have a dough, then roll into balls and coat with hemp seeds. Refrigerate to keep firm. Enjoy!

1 cup unsweetened sunflower seed butter (or any nut butter)
1/4 cup maple syrup, preferably Grade B
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of sea salt
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1/3 cup dried cranberries (fruit sweetened) or raisins
1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds
1/2 cup raw hemp seeds, for rolling

Instructions

In a large bowl, mix together the sunflower seed butter, maple syrup, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt until combined. Add the coconut, cranberries, and sunflower seeds. Mix well.
Roll the dough into 1-1/2 inch balls. (If the mixture is too soft to form with your hands, refrigerate it for 30 minutes or so.) Roll the balls in the hemp seeds to coat.

The Salt of the Earth

Pure Raw Himalayan Crystal rose colored salt! There are so many wonderful uses for this mineral rich food. First and foremost, use it to add nuanced flavor to your meals. Sprinkle on raw avocado, use in soups and even on popcorn and your taste buds will be elevated to heavenly heights. Secondly, pure salt poured into hot bath water makes for a spa-like experience, as well as a deep detox.  Mix some salt crystals with a high quality coconut or almond oil, add a few drops of essential oil and you have your own homemade body scrub. You can also use the finer grains mixed in a cup of water to prepare a nasal rinse or throat gargle. This is quite effective if you have a sinus infection or a sore throat Kim over at Yogitrition.com has an outstanding article on using pure salt to cleanse and detoxify your internal organs by doing a Salt Flush.

This ancient salt is so old, it has been dubbed, "Jurassic salt." Its rich pink hue comes from the high concentration of trace minerals, especially iron. "This is pure, hand-mined salt found naturally, deep within the pristine Himalayan Mountains. Crystallized over 250 million years ago, ancient sea beds were covered by lava, protecting the salt from modern-day pollution, and lending to the belief that Himalayan Pink salt is the purest salt to be found on earth." (saltworks.us) Try this recipe and treat your body to some of the benefits of this amazing gift from the earth:

Pink Salt Body Scrub

1 cup pure Himalayan salt
1/2 cup organic virgin almond oil or coconut oil if you live in a hot climate
15 drops of 100% pure Vanilla essential oil

Mix with a wooden spoon
Enjoy!

Princeton

Did you know that Princeton has an awesome community auditing program where inquisitive minds who live nearby can sign up for and take classes for a small fee? Though most of the participants are older retired folks looking to increase their IQ, the program is open to all adult residents. A great opportunity to explore subjects like Italian Art & Gastronomy or Quantum Physics, the CAP program is very user-friendly and straightforward. Between classes one can tour Princeton's stoic halls of higher learning and engage the diverse and friendly students who fill the campus.

The Architecture of the buildings is superb, especially the University Chapel where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech in 1960.

The many cultural events at the University can keep you occupied even if you don't choose to attend a course.

The town of Princeton is quite interesting as well. Many streets are cobbled and the historic roots of the place is palpable. A great walkable community, you can set out from the Princeton gate and explore the quaint town by foot.

There are shops of all kinds here, preppy old school and hippy new age, alike. Shop the World is of the latter variety and the place to go for all things fair-trade.

Not to far from Princeton, the towns of New Hope and Lambertville are worth a visit. They are humble yet culturally rich little towns bathed by the Delaware River and bursting with charm. Check out Peddler's Village for a joyous and peaceful shopping experience and pick up some eclectic gifts.

My favorite shop of all is Journey's. If you love crystals and flowery, lovely, inspiring things, this little gem is not to be missed.

Another gem, the New Hope Public Library is very petite, but well-stocked and staffed by friendly local people.

And locally owned, mom and pop shops abound. With no whole foods within 30 miles, try the River of Life Natural Foods. The woman who runs it is a treasure.

You can even take pottery classes at the wonderful Earth Center Pottery located in the Tyler Park Center for the Arts.

The instructors are hands-on, very friendly and extremely patient. You'll be surprised at what you can make after your first lesson.

So much to love about this area and once you finish wandering around New Hope, head over the bridge to Lambertville using the walkers lane.

The view is spectacular and may make you want to linger,

but if you hurry, you just might catch the sunset back at Peddler's Village and it is to live for.
